Background
Prof. James Hodges started combat sports as a teenager with both Western and Thai boxing. He later found Combat and Submission Wrestling which ultimately led him to join Exeter BJJ in 2005.
Having been awarded his black belt in 2013 and 3rd-degree black belt in 2022 by Prof. Raphael Dos Santos, James is the academy’s senior coach.
BJJ Style
James’ BJJ game and teaching style focus on perfecting core fundamental techniques and movement that work against all styles and trends. This no-nonsense approach to BJJ comes across in his classes and the encouraging family ethos he brings to the academy.
Expert Instruction
Having competed frequently as a younger man, James has in recent years focused on passing on his knowledge to students and coaching them to competitive success.
James is also available for private 1:1 tuition by arrangement.
